Letter From the President

Hello Everyone,

I hope that you had a good winter! Hopefully we will get through this wet spell and work on getting out doors in the sun!

Much has been going on at the Castle: in early December, Libman & Associates, LTD.Certified Public Accountants, Business Consultants reported out to the Board of Trustees that The Cocumscussoc Association had a clean audit. Scott Libman also attended the Annual Meeting on January 21, 2017, and he made himself available for questions. A summary of such is attached. (Full copies of the report are available upon request).

Susan Danforth has continues to work tirelessly coordinating the grants we have received from The Preservation Society and Champlin Foundation to have work done on the Castle. The Brewster Thornton Group Architects, from Providence, Rhode Island are facilitating the bid process and work should begin mid-to-late spring. The plan is to have House Tours beginning May 6th, and our Opening Weekend celebration-Heritage Days will be May 20 and 21, 2017.

The Docents, co-chaired by Sharon Ferrara and Virginia Royal, have been meeting throughout the winter months; there are many plans in the works! Docent training begins Wednesday, April 12, 2017 from 4-6 pm, contact Joyce Fuller at (401) 486-8137 oredjoy@msn.com to register.

Maggie Skenyon continues to develop our Youth Education program and already has schools booked for 2017. Along with this Maggie takes on many responsibilities, such as Annual Appeal. This will be Maggie's last year doing the Annual Appeal. We are looking for someone to take over this responsibility, Maggie is willing to train someone and support them during the transition. Please reach out to me if you are interested at: (401) 965-2010 ordbouleb@aol.com

There are many other activities in the making such as two smaller grants to support the development of trails on the Castle Property and protection of some key artifacts in the Castle, though smaller scale, none the less very important. Next month I will highlight such and keep you updated on the Castle work schedule and events.

On April 8th, we are having Window Day and light cleaning of the Castle, from 8:30-11:30. Please consider joining us.

On Sunday, May 7, 2017 we are having a Fundraising Dinner at the East Greenwich Veteran Fireman’s Club (80 Queen St.). Enjoy great Italian food while Jack Picard, on keyboard, performs throughout the evening. We will be having a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle. Please consider joining us. If you cannot join us, a donation to the silent auction would be greatly appreciated.

We at the Castle appreciate all the support that you have been giving us over the years and look forward to having you involved as much as possible going forward.

Have a good beginning to Spring. Hope to see you soon.

As always,

Denise M. Boulé, President
