VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT SMITH’S CASTLE

Due to our expansion of activities in the past few years, the Cocumscussoc Association is in need of volunteers with all types of skills to support us in our  mission of welcoming visitors who wish to learn about early Rhode Island history.

These are just a few of the areas that would be helpful to our small, all volunteer non-profit organization:

Fundraising – Everything from sending materials for our annual membership drive to helping to develop plans to expand that membership base.

Publicity and Use of Media – Offering suggestions and helping to implement the use of media and print sources.

Grant Writing – As a non-profit, we depend heavily on grants to facilitate our activities and to fund constant maintenance of our 350+ year old house. Searching for new grant sources and writing the grants is a continuous need.

Site Help – We need people who are willing to roll up their sleeves to maintain and improve our trails and landscaping. As a venerable structure, it is also in constant need of minor repairs and cosmetic touchups.

Public Events – In addition to regular tours, each year we open the Castle to four public events: Opening Day in May, Strawberry Festival in June, Harvest Festival in September, and Christmas at the Castle in December.  These require a large staff to cover various tasks: setting up and breaking down tables, chairs, tents; selling refreshments; providing baked goods (e.g., for bake sales or refrehments), working various activities (e.g., children’s crafts table).

In addition, we have recently added monthly teas and breakfast talks which have the same needs.

See form below poster if you are interested in volunteering, and someone will get back to you shortly!
