2026 colonial Tea and History events


Second Sunday of the Month  (May-September) at 4:30 pm unless otherwise noted. $35/person. Limited Seating. Each Tea Includes a presentation (description below) while you enjoy your dessert.

May 9th SATURDAY – Mother’s Day Tea with Esmé Zodrow-MacDonald, Family Life in Colonial Days. How might the Smiths & Updikes have lived at the Castle long ago?

June 14th – with Dr. Jane Lancaster,  Arthur Bowler: In Slavery and Freedom. We’ll follow the  extraordinary odyssey taken by an “ordinary” enslaved man in the 18th century.

July 12th – with Anne Casey, URI Master Gardeners at the Castle. After a short history of the Master Gardeners’ long involvement at the Castle, they will lead  a tour of our historic gardens.

August  9th – with Marilyn Harris, The Declaration: Not Just Jefferson.  In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence this year, you’ll hear about ideas and voices, in addition to Jefferson’s. which went into the writing of this iconic document.

September 13th  - with Janet Dionis, Threads of Time: Unravelling the History of Block Island Shipwrecks Through Quilts and Their Makers. Quilts made from salvaged calico are used as the starting point for exploring Block Island’s tragic shipwreck history.

December 13th Christmas Tea. Sunday at 2:30 pm - with Ladies of the Greene Colonial Fashion Show. The "Ladies of the Greene" is a volunteer living history group associated with the Nathanael Greene Homestead, dedicated to educating the public on 18th-century civilian life during the American Revolution. (GOING FAST!)
