Smith’s Castle, in collaboration with the Tomaquag Museum, will host a kayak tour of historic Mill Cove from 7:00 – 9:00pm on Saturday July 22, 2017. Registration is $ 25.00 per participant. Children between 14-18 are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult.
Guides Rhode Island historian Bob Geake and Tomaquag Museum Director Lorén Spears will introduce paddlers to the diversity of wildlife in the cove. The guides will also provide exploration of Mill Cove’s islands concentrating on the historic uses by both indigenous peoples and European traders, including the production and distribution of wampum.
Participants will need to bring their own kayaks, paddles, and life-jackets, and will be asked to sign a release of liability. We will put in at Cocumscussoc Brook at 7:00 pm off the parking lot at Smith’s Castle, 55 Richard Smith Dr. Wickford, R.I.
